As an Experience Early Learning Blog Ambassador, we receive the Experience Early Learning preschool curriculum in exchange for sharing our honest and authentic stories resulting from our personal experiences. As always, our opinions on amazing things for children are 100% our own. Keep in mind that all preschoolers do things in their own time and on their own terms. What one is ready for, another might not be. Please use your best judgement when planning activities for your children.
This week with Experience Early Learning (formerly Mother Goose Time), we learned about the desert at night. Our topics were Desert Cottontail, Desert Night, Coyote, Rattlesnake, and Campfire.
We started off the week by making Desert Cottontail Puppets using paper bags and basic craft supplies Monday. We also did an adorable "Word Family Hop" to practice -un words.
On Tuesday, we learned about nocturnal animals in the desert. We compared and contrasted what we do at night vs what the nocturnal animals do.
Additionally, we played an alphabet matching game! The children did a great job matching their letters, making the letter sounds, and thinking of words that start with the letter.
Our topic on Wednesday was Coyote and we played a Coyotes and Rattlesnakes pattern game.
We read “No Sun is Fun” from Experience Early Learning and the children learned about the -un family of words. The preschoolers added “f, s and r” to -un to make the words fun, sun, and run. They had a great time!
Thursday meant learning all about rattlesnakes! We also learned about different reptiles. The children learned new words like vertebra and scales
On Friday, our lessons were all about camping and campfires! The children had the opportunity to share their experiences of camping and sitting by a campfire.
We discussed fire safety too. The children made predictions about what you can do at a camp, then read a book about going camping.
What a great week filled with lots of wonderful desert-themed activities!
Don't forget to check back next week to see what we're up to as we wrap up our desert theme and get started with Bees & Butterflies from Experience Early Learning (formerly Mother Goose Time).
