As an Experience Early Learning Blog Ambassador, we receive the Experience Early Learning preschool curriculum in exchange for sharing our honest and authentic stories resulting from our personal experiences. As always, our opinions on amazing things for children are 100% our own. Keep in mind that all preschoolers do things in their own time and on their own terms. What one is ready for, another might not be. Please use your best judgement when planning activities for your children.
Everyone was so excited to get started with our Space & Sky theme from Experience Early Learning (formerly Mother Goose Time). After all, it's such an interesting topic for preschoolers to learn about!
This week, we're exploring space from earth and talking about the stars, the sun and moon, astronomers, and even comets.
Today we learned about the moon, sang "Hey, Diddle, Diddle," and made Moon Rocks!
It seems like every week, we feature a fun Make & Play activity! The preschoolers love these wonderful activities from Experience Early Learning THAT much!
We practiced important physical science skills while discussing what types of things we'd bring back from a trip to the moon.
My personal favorite was, "a piece of the moon." Not surprisingly, some friends also said, "Moon Rocks!"
Of course, that brings us to our creative art activity for today. You know, because what preschooler doesn't love making moon rocks?
We used small paper bags and foil and let me just say the foil created a truly unique sensory experience. Aluminum foil is shiny and crinkly and tons of fun.
Each preschooler got to practice writing his or her name on the bag and then decorating it.
As an added bonus, our foil moon rocks were perfect for counting as the children put each one in their bag.
After that, it was time to play! The Teacher Guide encouraged us to invite children to share a story about how they found their moon rocks on the moon.
Another fun idea that was included was to practice wrapping objects in the foil to create more moon rocks and then hiding them around the room. What a wonderful space-themed treasure hunt!
Don't forget to check back next to see what we're up to as we continue learning about Space & Sky with Experience Early Learning (formerly Mother Goose Time).
